The Omphalos Hypothesis (Υποθέσος Ομφαλός)? How crazy!

I last night read on Rationalwiki about a recent "creation science" movement called the Omphalos hypothesis which states that an apparent history was given by God in the form of sedimentary strata layers and volcanoes that seem to have erupted prior to creation. I am about to tell you why that cannot be the case.

So what does it say, anyway?

Well, readers, this hypothesis also leads to the conclusion that the god invoked is a deceitful god, since "His nature can be determined by His creation" and the idea that a 6000-year-old universe can indeed look to be nearly 14 billion years old if God so desires, with coalescing planets with apparent ages of up to 7 billion years. Another way to refute this is realize that the speed of light was constant throughout all time. I am even working on a program which i hope could simulate a universe's evolution with as few independent variables as possible. It can be done with time, length, and mass units based on a lightest hydrogen molecule.

Even worse, some creationists, namely Kent Hovind, support a historical accuracy of a worldwide deluge. Another "scientist" and "geologist" told of interconnected water chambers well underneath the planet's crust. If that were true, the waters would soon evaporate and liquefy the ground. And he also said "the water burst through the crack as god opened it with the force of ten billion hydrogen bombs..." Mightn't that knock Earth into an orbit partially out of the habitable zone?

What do you have to support this, Rohan?

Seeing as though a Bible verse says "Ask and it will be given to you, seek and you will find, knock and the door will be opened to you" or something like that, some Christians have prayed for miracles to grow back amputated limbs, but amputated limbs do not regenerate in response to prayer. I know of some who will say "They don't deserve their limbs, we deserve to die..." actually, that verse, saying "all have sinned..." appears only in the New Testament, the Jews did not believe that newborns had done anything wrong or were encumbered by sin, so why should today's Christians? After all, their faith is derived from Judaism. This doctrine, named Original Sin, is purely Catholic.

Finally, there are verses that say that God cannot lie. One of those is in Titus, it is contradicted by the Omphalos hypothesis. So the Bible is contradicted by the very universe we live in!

Also, the implications by "God's Plan" state that murderers, rapists, and foetus killers are puppets in God's Plan, meaning God Himself is at fault, there is no free will...it goes on and on.

So, logically, the god of the bible is, thankfully, imaginary. Myth busted. Peace.
Yes, an obscure yet infamous creation hypothesis that came from 1857.

This text shows questions asked to a solidly logical being (note i did not say he was unquestionably logical, since logic and truth are two different things) who is actively looking for the truth about the history of our world.

In 1857 a novel was written by Gosse to explain what he thought about the age of our planet and how it conflicted with [Yah]'s truthfulness in our world. A Catholic priest reviewed this book and was enormously conflicted; it caused him to doubt his supposed god's truthfulness, and was immensely fearful that the church would be mainly (if not entirely) abandoned.

And so to give a clue about the meaning of this hypothesis's name i have added an aptly associated picture.

By the way, i recommend reading the book Omphalos: an Attempt to Untie the Geological Knot which in just one language would be called Ομφαλός - Μια Προσπάθεια να Λύσει το Γεωλογικό Κόμπο
